The ECB has dismissed as premature reports that players will be allowed to miss the tour of Bangladesh even if the boards security consultants decide it is safe to go ahead. While some news organisations have reported that the ECB is to give players the option not to tour the country due to fears over potential terrorist attacks, it insists that the relevant security visit has not yet started and that any decision will be delayed until that is complete. The players have not yet been approached on the issue. The ECBs security advisor, Reg Dickason, is currently inspecting venues in India with PCA chief executive, David Leatherdale, and ECB director of cricket operations, John Carr. They are expected to arrive in Bangladesh in the next few days. Dhaka, the nations capital, suffered a terrorist attack in July that left many dead, while Australia cancelled their tour to the country at the end of last year due to security concerns. But Paul Farbrace, the England assistant coach, described reports that the ECB had offered players an opt-out as news to me and insisted that they would wait until the security visit was completed before making any decisions. There has been no discussion on players being allowed to opt out, Farbrace, who was in the Sri Lanka team coach that was attacked by terrorists in Lahore in 2009, said. We had a chat with the Test and ODI squads about 10 to 12 days ago and we agreed we wouldnt talk about Bangladesh until they [the security team] get back and make a report. Until they get back, there is nothing to talk about. It would be a huge call to decide not to tour. Teams not going to Pakistan is a dreadful shame. I was on bus in Lahore and we were lucky to survive that. Player and staff safety is paramount but its a huge decision for a country to decide not to go. Bangladesh are looking forward to us going. While giving players the opt-out option remains a possible, perhaps even likely, scenario, it does present potential problems with the dressing room dynamic. A team that has built an all in it together culture could stand the risk of being fragmented and, while promises not to take account of the decision in selection can be well-intentioned, allowing another player an opportunity is always a risk. If the replacement player performs, it could prove hard for the original player to regain their place. There is also precedent for such a decision. England players were given the option not to tour India in 2001, due to security concerns in the wake of the attack on the World Trade Center, with Andy Caddick and Robert Croft deciding to opt out of it. Croft never played for England again. The safety and security of our players and management is always of paramount importance and this will continue to apply to all teams representing England on overseas tours and attending training camps, an England spokesman said. The ECBs security advisor Reg Dickason and director of cricket operations John Carr are currently completing a pre-tour inspection in Bangladesh. As we have said before, once we have received and evaluated their report, we will discuss it fully with the England players. The luck seems to be evening out. Seager and Mike Zunino came up with clutch hits early, and the Mariners used an unlikely ninth inning double play to pull out a 4-3 win over the Indians on Tuesday night and extend their winning streak to eight games. Playing without ailing manager Eric Wedge for a second straight game, the Mariners took advantage of defensive miscues by the Indians, received solid pitching and executed flawlessly in the ninth inning when it appeared Cleveland was set to at least tie the game. The Mariners extended the longest current win streak in baseball and have a chance Wednesday for their first nine-game win streak since 2003. "When we were in Cleveland they were playing really good baseball obviously and they got a few breaks for them and thats what good teams do," Seager said. "This series weve been playing pretty well and weve been able to capitalize when given the opportunities." The ninth started ominously with Mark Reynolds singling on Wilhelmsens first pitch of the inning. Drew Stubbs came on to pinch run and went racing to third on Lonnie Chisenhalls single up the middle to put runners on the corners with no outs. Thats when the craziness began. Yan Gomes hit a chopper to third base. Seager briefly looked at Stubbs and quickly threw to second to get pinch runner Mike Aviles. Stubbs found himself caught between making a sprint for the plate or staying at third. When he started to break for home, Nick Franklin was already throwing to the plate. Stubbs was caught in a rundown and eventually tagged out by shortstop Brad Miller. It was a fundamentally solid play mostly by a group of players that havent been in the big leagues for very long. "Our young guys right there, the way they executed that was quite impressive, starting with Seager and then Franklin and Miller getting over there. Thats not an easy guy to track down either," said Seattle bench coach Robby Thompson, who filled in for Wedge again. "It was great court awareness, if you would, for the young guys." Stubbs said he neverr should have hesitated once Seager threw to second.dddddddddddd "Its a play youve got to run through scenarios in your head and make your mind up and go with it," Stubbs said. "Any slight hesitation is going to cost you like it did." Wilhelmsen then struck out Michael Bourn looking to end it. "Thats what winning is about, is taking advantage of those opportunities and were starting to do that more times than not as of late," Wilhelmsen said. The Mariners believed they would have Wedge back in the dugout a day after he went to a local hospital following dizzy spells during batting practice. But doctors kept Wedge for one more night while more tests were run to try and determine a cause. Thompson improved to 2-0 as the Mariners fill-in manager. Seager had an RBI double in the first, an inning that was kept alive by a Cleveland error. He singled and scored the tying run in the third and Zunino came through with a two-out RBI off Cleveland starter Zach McAllister (4-6) later in the inning to give Seattle the lead. Raul Ibanez, Kendrys Morales and Michael Saunders all had doubles in the third inning. Zuninos two-out single into right field scored Saunders with what proved to be the winning run. Zunino had a solo homer on Monday night that was the winning run in a 2-1 victory. Seattle starter Erasmo Ramirez and a pair of relievers made the one-run lead stand up. Ramirez (1-1) pitched 5 2-3 innings, before giving way to Yoervis Medina, who threw 2 1-3 innings allowing just one hit. Wilhelmsens wild ninth was good enough for his 23rd save. Ramirez gave up a two-run homer to Gomes in the second, but allowed only one baserunner past first base the rest of the night. The big inning for Ramirez was the third, when the Indians had runners on the corners and two outs and got Reynolds to weakly ground out. "Sometimes things just kind of snowball and go your way and they seem to be going our way a little bit," Thompson said. NOTES: Clevelands three errors matched its season high, done on two other occasions this season. ... Seattle sent reliever Bobby LaFromboise to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday to clear a roster spot for Ramirez to make the start. ... Three of Gomes seven homers this season have come against Seattle.
