CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Chanting No Justice! No Peace! as they converged outside Bank of America Stadium, about 100 people peacefully demonstrated the fatal police shooting of a black man before the Carolina Panthers game Sunday.Nothing felt normal about what should have been a typical fall day of NFL football.A heavy police presence surrounded the stadium, where officers in black riot gear stood side-by-side around the entrances. There had been concerns that a sixth day of protests over Tuesday nights fatal shooting of Keith Scott would disrupt the game, or prevent fans from entering the stadium.Instead, it was quiet in the hours leading up to the game, as many fans stopped to hug officers and pose for pictures. Protesters didnt gather until about an hour before kickoff, when the group used bullhorns and held signs in demonstration. As kickoff neared, most of the protesters dropped to one knee when the national anthem played inside the stadium. Along the sideline inside the game, Carolina safety Marcus Ball raised his fist during the national anthem.Last month, San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick started a protest movement by not standing during the national anthem. He has said he wants to draw attention to racial oppression and police brutality in the United States. Many athletes have since joined him or said they support him, even before the recent police shootings in Charlotte and Tulsa, Oklahoma. As Sundays protest in Charlotte went on, fans heading for the stadium strolled by, many appearing to ignore the demonstrators. From inside the stadium, people stopped on access ramps on the upper level to watch the demonstrators. The crowd inside was flat, the Panthers didnt play well, and many fans didnt return to their seats after halftime. Carolina lost its first home game since November, 2014, but coach Ron Rivera said it was unfair to blame the unrest in Charlotte for the way the Panthers played. When we are here, we practice, we do the things we are supposed to do, Rivera said. What happened here (the shooting) was very tragic, and what we were hoping to do was be able to come out and put that aside. We just didnt play very well. I am not looking for excuses. The tragedy is its own entity, and we have to respect that.Carolina linebacker Luke Kuechly said the Panthers failed to bring unity to the Charlotte. You want to go out and win a game with whats going on right now, he said. It was an opportunity for us to bring the community together, and add something positive. We wanted to win, as Im sure everyone in Charlotte did.Outside the stadium, National Guard troops rode by the protest in two Humvees, followed by an unmarked N.C. Highway Patrol car. Many protesters held signs, others chanted Scotts name. It coincided with the music of the Brass Connection Band, a group that plays outside the stadium prior to home games. The band on Sunday played Parliaments We Want The Funk, as protesters slowed their chants to match the rhythm of the song. The bands drummer, Bill Banks, said he and his fellow musicians were just trying to use their talents to maintain calm. Were just out here to lighten the mood, Banks said. I dont have nothing against them protesting as long as its peaceful. Were just trying to do our part.Moments later, a woman carrying a free hugs sign made her way through the crowd, hugging both the bicycle officers watching over the crowd and some of the protesters who were locked arm-in-arm.It doesnt negate justice, accountability and equity, said Dani Cook, who said she was self-employed, in reference to her hugs. I can want to hug people. I can want to love people. I can also say there needs to be justice. There needs to be accountability. Theyre not separate.Scott was killed Tuesday by a black police undercover police officer trying to serve a warrant on someone else. Police maintain that Scott had a gun, though residents have said he was unarmed. In the dashboard camera video released Saturday night, Scott could be seen slowly backing away from his SUV with his hands down. Four shots are heard in quick succession, and he crumples to the ground mortally wounded. After the police vehicle dashboard camera and police body-cam videos were released, protests continued but were largely peaceful.City officials designated Sundays NFL game an extraordinary event, that gave officers the ability to search backpacks, coolers and anything else people might be carrying.Meanwhile, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton wore a T-shirt emblazoned with a quote by Martin Luther King Jr. on the back as he warmed up for the game. The dark shirt read Injustice Anywhere Is A Threat to Justice Everywhere.Newton earlier this week called Scotts fatal shooting embarrassing and touched on a state of oppression in our community. My big thing is holding people accountable- no matter what the race, no matter what the gender is, no matter what the age is, the league MVP said. Im an African-American and Im not happy how the justice has been dealt with over the years, and the state of oppression in our community, but we also as black people have to do right by ourselves. We cant be hypocrites. Wholesale Giants Jerseys . Mitch Holmberg added a goal and three assists. Connor Chartier also scored for the Chiefs (3-0-0). Luke Harrison spoiled Garrett Hughsons shutout bid with a power-play goal at 13:17 of the third period. The Spokane goaltender finished with 28 saves, including a Brandon Fushimi penalty shot in the second period that would have tied the game 1-1. Giants Jerseys China . They hope to persuade the other team owners and commissioner Roger Goodell to put pressure on Redskins owner Daniel Snyder to drop the nickname they find offensive. "Given the way the meeting transpired," Ray Halbritter, an Oneida representative and leader of the "Change the Mascot Campaign," said Wednesday, "it became somewhat evident they were defending the continued use of the name. https://www.cheapjerseysgiants.us/ . There are some early surprises in the race for the Hart Trophy, but two of the contenders are the leagues biggest stars over the past decade. There are many more players in contention for the awards than just the three that Ive named, and a good or bad week can easily alter the landscape, but through the first 20 or so games of the NHL season, this is how the awards races look to me. San Francisco Giants Store . Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto FC failed to make the postseason while Montreal Impact fell at the first hurdle losing heavily to Houston Dynamo in the Eastern Conference Knockout Round. Cheap Giants Jerseys . As he recorded his 23rd and 24th points of the evening, a segment of the sellout Air Canada Centre crowd expressed their appreciation for the Raptors point guard with a smattering of MVP chants. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Chiefs Spencer Ware learned a lot from Marshawn Lynch during his short time in Seattle. For one thing, Ware learned to generally keep his mouth shut. For another, he learned to run like a beast. He was always demonstrating, so I was able to see it day-in and day-out in his work ethic, said Ware, who ran for 77 yards and caught a 48-yard touchdown pass to lead Kansas City to a 24-21 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday . Hes one of the great ones. His consistency set him apart.Wares tenure with the Seahawks was hardly memorable. The sixth-round pick shuffled between the active roster and practice squad as a rookie, carrying just three times for 10 yards in two games. He didnt play at all the following season. But when he signed a future contract with the Chiefs on New Years Eve that year, Ware got with it a fresh start. He earned a spot on the team as a hybrid fullback in training camp, then earned important carries when four-time Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles went down with a knee injury. The Chiefs thought so highly of his performance that they signed him to a two-year, $3.6 million contract that must have seemed unfathomable considering where hed been a year earlier. He runs with a lot of physicality and determination, Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith said. He played quarterback (in high school), hes done a lot of things in his past going back to college, so he has that in him. Hes a good mix and I think you see it physically. He has great vision. That vision was never more evident than on his first career TD reception.Ware caught the screen pass from Smith a couple of yards downfield, turned toward the end zone and began making guys miss. Never really known for his speed or elusiveness -- Ware is still a power runner despite slimming down a bit -- he managed to leave the Saints gasping for air.Big guys were coming at me. I wandered off, got lost in the middle and ending up squeezing out, Ware said. It was a tremendous job on the perimeter by our receivers and a great joob by our offensive linemen coming downfield to block.dddddddddddd Its always good to see those big guys run like that.Likewise, they love seeing Ware run the way he does.Great feet and vision, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. When he hits it, hes going up field. You dont see him going lateral much. When he sees it, he hits it.Hes also been doing a better job of hanging onto the football lately.Ware never fumbled once in high school or college, even while playing for LSU in the pressure-cooker of the SEC. And he hadnt fumbled once in the NFL until a few weeks ago in Houston, when he lost the ball in a 19-12 defeat. Then he lost a fumble each of the next two weeks, too.But considering everything hes been through already in his young career, Ware never let the mistakes get him down. He spent the Chiefs bye week working on ball security, and the result was a flawless performance in a win over Oakland and another against the Saints.I think him probably being around Seattle there a little bit with the way `Beast Mode ran it, Reid said, referring to Lynch by his nickname, thats the same type of deal. He had a chance to watch that firsthand and talk to him. ... Thats how you work that thing. Its been working out quite well for Ware and the Chiefs, too.Game notes Charles only played one snap Sunday after some knee swelling last week. Reid said it wasnt a big issue and he simply wanted to be cautious with him. Its a long season and well need him as we go, Reid said. Im trying to be as patient as possible. ... Reid said CB Phillip Gaines (knee) was doing better Monday, though its unclear when he will play. Gaines was inactive against the Saints. ... LB Justin Houston (knee surgery) still does not have a timeline for returning to games. Well just keep practicing him and see how he does, Reid said. Hes not there yet.---Online: AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
