e to put up competitive totals on tracks that are not conducive to their free-spirited, big-hitting game. As captain Jason Holde Antworten

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Former Purdue quarterbacks Austin Appleby and Danny Etling will have a famous alum watching from afar Saturday.New Orleans Saints star Drew Brees will tune it to see Appleby and Etling square off when No. 21 Florida plays at 16th-ranked LSU, a game that will help decide the Southeastern Conferences Eastern Division.Ive actually been really happy for both of them, Brees said Wednesday. I had a chance to see both of them play at Purdue. By a twist of fate, they both end up at SEC schools, so, SEC, feel free to come to Purdue to find your quarterbacks. Its just been great to see those guys succeed elsewhere and obviously with two really great programs. So Ill be tuning into that one. That one will be entertaining. Its certainly a unique situation, even with transfers becoming more and more common in college football.Appleby and Etling were once teammates competing for the same job and became close friends. Both lost the starting gig in West Lafayette, Indiana, and ended up transferring to different schools in the same conference.Theyll reunite Saturday about 700 miles south in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.Who would have thought that? Etling said. Its definitely crazy, and whats one more crazy thing to add on top of our season, eh?Their journey to Saturdays game, which was rescheduled and moved to LSU because of Hurricane Matthew in October, actually started three years ago.Etling replaced Rob Henry as Purdues starting quarterback that season. Appleby supplanted Etling the following year, prompting Etling to transfer to LSU. Current Purdue starter David Blough beat out Appleby last season, sending Appleby to the bench and leaving him searching for a new place to play.Etling sat out last year under NCAA transfer rules and replaced Brandon Harris in the starting lineup after two games. Hes 5-2 as the starter.Appleby landed at Florida as a graduate transfer this past spring and has subbed for injured starter Luke Del Rio in three games, two because of a sprained knee and again last week against South Carolina because of a right shoulder injury that could sideline him for the rest of the season. Appleby is 2-1.Appleby, Etling and Blough remain tight, communicating regularly in a group text. They mostly exchange pleasantries, a good luck here or a congrats there. Its been pretty cool to keep that group together, Appleby said.Although Purdue hasnt had much success in the last decade, the The Cradle of Quarterbacks has been a defining feature of the football program. Brees, Len Dawson, Gary Danielson, Jim Everett, Bob Griese, Kyle Orton and others played at Purdue. One thing about Purdue youll find is theres a lot of pride in the quarterback position, Etling said. It kind of follows you wherever you go. And with that, theres a lot of pressure put on the quarterbacks when you play there. So its a double-edged sword and its fun to be a part of that.Brees has met Appleby and Etling, watching them play in person in recent years. He also spent time with Appleby while they worked out at mechanics coach Tom Houses training facility in Los Angeles during an offseason.Brees has texted with and talked to both quarterbacks periodically. On Saturday, hell be pulling for them to play well -- for themselves and for Purdue.Hes huge for that program, Appleby said. Hes our Tim (Tebow), I guess. Hes obviously a Hall of Famer. What hes done, what he means to that university is huge in the way that hes been around and knows how important it is to be around us kids and support our program has been really, really special. The way he does it is almost more than you would expect for a guy like him.---AP Sports Writer Brett Martel in New Orleans and Baton Rouge contributed to this report.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.org Roquan Smith Bears Jersey . LOUIS -- Heading into the final stretch of the season, the issues for the Chicago Bears banged-up defence only seem to be getting worse. Match factsOctober 2, SharjahStart time 1500 local (1100 GMT)Big pictureA change of formats has not brought a change in fortune for a faltering West Indies side. Having been blanked out in the T20I series, they lost the first ODI in Sharjah by 111 runs. While West Indies continued to struggle to get enough runs on the board in spin-friendly UAE conditions, Pakistan would be cheered that many of their younger players are at the forefront of the winning momentum they are starting to build.Among those young guns is 21-year-old top-order batsman Babar Azam, who stroked his maiden international century in the first ODI. Opener Sharjeel Khan and left-arm spinners Imad Wasim and Mohammad Nawaz are other less experienced players who have shown signs that they may have bright careers ahead of them. For the time being, they are fueling Pakistans progress and West Indies demise in a tour that has so far been utterly one-sided.For West Indies, one of the main stumbling blocks has been their failure to put up competitive totals on tracks that are not conducive to their free-spirited, big-hitting game. As captain Jason Holder acknowledged, they need to rotate the strike better and show the application to build an innings.A win in the second ODI would seal the three-match series for Pakistan, but there is more riding on it than that. A 3-0 series victory for Pakistan would displace West Indies from the No. 8 position in the ODI rankings. As both teams eye direct qualification for the 2019 World Cup (for which they would need to be in the top eight on September 30, 2017) such encounters acquire added significance.Form guidePakistan WWLLL (completed matches, most recent first)West Indies LLWLLIn the spotlightIn the opening ODI, Pakistan captain Azhar Ali nicked the first ball of the match, and his first of the tour, to depart for a golden duck. Azhar, who averages 38.69 in 26 ODIs as captain, will be under mounting pressure to prove that he can juggle the responsibilities of captaincy and opening the batting. At issue is not just whether he can churn out enough runs, but whether he can do so at a strike rate in tune with the new brand of cricket that coach Mickey Arthur wants to inculcate in his charges. Given that Azhar had earlier declined the PCBs request to relinquish the captaincy and focus on his batting, he would doubtless feel he has a point to prove. While Holder has spoken of the need for his batsmen to play spin better, he would also want more from his own lead spinner, Sunil Narine. After going wicketless in the T20I series, Narine returned figures of 1 for 58 in 10 overs in the first ODI. He was outbowled not only by team-mate Sulieman Benn but also by Pakistans far less experienced spinners. If it iis unrealistic to expect West Indies batsmen to dramatically improve against spin overnight, then at least a better showing by Narine could narrow the gap between the sides.ddddddddddddeam newsUmar Akmal must be itching to break back into the ODI side, but Pakistan are unlikely to change their winning combination as they seek to build consistency and stability in their limited-overs set-up.Pakistan (possible): 1 Azhar Ali (capt), 2 Sharjeel Khan, 3 Babar Azam, 4 Shoaib Malik, 5 Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), 6 Mohammad Rizwan, 7 Mohammad Nawaz, 8 Imad Wasim, 9 Wahab Riaz, 10 Mohammad Amir, 11 Hasan AliIn West Indies continuing quest for top-order runs, they may consider replacing the scratchy Kraigg Brathwaite, who made his ODI debut in the first match, with Jonathan Carter or Evin Lewis. The rest of the XI is not expected to change much.West Indies (possible): 1 Evin Lewis/Jonathan Carter, 2 Johnson Charles, 3 Darren Bravo, 4 Marlon Samuels, 5 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 6 Kieron Pollard, 7 Jason Holder (capt.), 8 Carlos Brathwaite, 9 Sunil Narine, 10 Sulieman Benn, 11 Shannon GabrielPitch and conditionsNearly 80 minutes were lost due to a floodlight failure during the first ODI. With Sharjah set to host the second match as well, it is hoped that those issues have been adequately tackled. The weather has been consistently hot and the pitch is likely to be similar in nature to that of the first match. Expect a flat, batting-friendly surface with assistance on offer for disciplined spin bowling. Given the afternoon heat, bowling first might be best avoided.Stats and triviaKieron Pollard is one match short of completing 100 ODI appearances for West Indies. He has played 99 matches, scoring 2256 at 25.93 and picking up 49 wickets at 38.63Four of Pakistans six biggest ODI wins against West Indies (in terms of runs) have come in Sharjah. Fridays 111-run win was their fourth largest.Sharjeel Khan has a strike rate of 150 in ODIs in 2016, the best among batsmen who have scored 150-plus runs this year. He has scored 306 off 204 balls in seven innings.QuotesI have had the experience of playing in Sharjah, and it worked well for me to score a maiden hundred. What I did was just to stay till the end and get as many runs as I could; the coach had asked me to play my natural game.Pakistan batsman Babar Azam, after scoring his 120 off 131 to set up Pakistans winSpin has played a heavy part in our downfall. We need to find a way to tick over the scoreboard then maximise our boundary options. We need to buckle down better against spin.West Indies ODI captain Jason Holder on where his side can improve.
