Brisbane Roar coach John Aloisi is keeping his cards close to his chest as to who will replace Jamie Maclaren in Friday nights A-League battle against Adelaide United.In-form striker Maclaren is in Thailand on Socceroos duty and will miss the clash at Coopers Stadium after scoring in back-to-back games.Around half a dozen players could conceivably fill in for him up front, including midfielder Brett Holman, Spanish import Arana, winger Brandon Borrello, utility Dimitri Petratos, and young forwards Joey Katebian and Nick DAgostino.Aloisi has made his decision but was in no mood to give the opposition any hints as the Roar seek what would be a fourth consecutive victory. We worked on it yesterday, it seemed to work well, what were trying to do. Hopefully tomorrow it will work really well, he told reporters on Thursday. At the moment, Im not going to say who were thinking of starting with because Im sure Adelaide United will be guessing.Maclaren missed only a handful of games last season and on those occasions was replaced by either DAgostino, Henrique or Jean Carlos Solorzano. The latter two have since left Brisbane while DAgostino is yet to make an appearance for the Roar this campaign.Arana and Petratos, meanwhile, made their season debuts off the bench in last weeks 1-0 win over Melbourne City.Aloisi said it was a difficult decision as no other players in the squad share Maclarens attributes.Maccas a different sort of player to most strikers in this league, he said.He plays on shoulders and makes forward runs, so well have someone there who will (do that), whether its a No.9 who does it or a midfielder who comes from deep or a winger, because its important we have someone to stretch the team. The Roar shocked some observers last week by beating City with a counter-attacking game, which could again be effective against an Adelaide side that looks to dominate possession at home.Aloisi said just because they were adapting their game to suit specific opponents, doesnt mean theyre abandoning their brand of football. One thing youre going to get from Brisbane Roar, well try and play an attacking brand of football to win football games. That doesnt mean you have to have more possession than the opposition, it means when you do go and attack, you attack with a purpose.STATS THAT MATTER* Adelaide have won each of their last two encounters with Brisbane Roar in the A-League and will be looking for a third consecutive win against them for the first time in the league.* Brisbane Roar have earned victory on seven of their last nine trips to Adelaide (L1, D1).* Brisbane have won each of their last three games, conceding only one goal in the process. The last time they won more games in a row was a four-game streak from December to January last season. Jurgen Klopps side are on a high after their dramatic 5-4 aggregate win over Borussia Dortmund in the last eight on Thursday, and must now travel to El Madrigal for the first leg on April 28.Villarreal are fourth in La Liga, and Sky Sports Spanish football expert Balague says they are strong from the back and on the counter attack. The Reds overcame Borussia Dortmund 5-4 on aggregate in the quarter-final I hope Liverpool manage to get to the next round. The little details will count for everything. Villarreal have a lot of quality, but the biggest thing is their solid base. They have one of the best defences in La Liga. They are a club who dont demand too much, the expectations arent huge and players love playing there. But now theyve got to a point where theyve got to show if theyve got what it takes to get to the next level, to show if they can consistently play in European competitions at this stage. Cedric Bakambu of Villarreal celebrates with Roberto Soldado But Liverpool are favourites in my mind, but lets remember they made their lives very difficult against Borussia Dortmund, and there are not always miracles. If Villarreal can control the game and counter attack, they will be dangerous.Individually, they are stronger than Liverpool, but I get the feeling Liverpool have found a dynamic, a mental strength to see them through. Soldados role has changed since moving back to Spain from Tottenham If they fill the stadium, it means everyone in the town will be in the stadium. Thats the contrast. The fan base is not huge.Their rise has beenn based on very good defence, breaking hard on the counter with a lot of pace, and with players who are there because they perhaps failed before, like [Roberto] Soldado, or because they want to jump onto other bigger clubs, like Cedric Bakambu.ddddddddddddVillarreal have former Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado on their books, and while his time in the Premier League was a disappointment, Balague says his role has now changed from a goalscorer to a creator.Hes different to the Roberto Soldado who was here in England, the one who didnt pass and didnt score. Highlights from El Madrigal as Barcelona were held by Villarreal to a 2-2 draw last month Before he went to Spurs he was a goalscorer, now he helps more with assists. He drops deeper, and helps others to score. They have a very solid axis, Alphonse Areola the goalkeeper, Eric Bailly the centre-back is strong and will have nothing to fear, Bruno, who for me is the best midfielder Spain has outside the top three, and of course Bakambu and Soldado, who create danger. If you score against them in the first leg away from home, you have an advantage.
