After delivering his best performance of the NRL season, Will Chambers has been put on notice by Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy that he wants more of the same in Saturdays qualifying final against North Queensland. The Queensland State of Origin centre missed three months mid-season with a fractured foot but starred in the Storms 20-point win over Cronulla on Saturday to seal the minor premiership.Bellamy was delighted to see Chambers back to his aggressive best.It was a bad injury and it took a little while for him to get confidence in his foot but, with the way hes running, Im thinking hes back, Bellamy said. That was definitely his best game since hes been back from injury and we are expecting him to pick up on that now and play like that every week.Chambers, 28, said he felt like he still had improvement in him, which would be needed if they were going to beat the defending champion Cowboys at AAMI Park.Weve had two wins against them this year but they beat us in a prelim down here, he said.Finals footy is a different time of year and the Cowboys are going to come down here with JT (Johnathan Thurston) and theyre going to throw a lot at us and we know were got to be on our A game.Chambers was part of the Storm side who were outgunned 32-12 by North Queensland in the preliminary final last year at AAMI Park which ended their title hopes. He said the heavy loss on their home turf still stung. It does to some extent but weve got a new playing group and theres some young boys getting their first opportunity to play finals footy, Chambers said.Theyre a new generation and they take it all in their stride which is a good thing. One of that new breed is the NRLs leading tryscorer, winger Suliasi Vunivalu, who crossed for his 22nd four-pointer against the Sharks in his debut season.Chambers said 20-year-old Vunivalu was a special player.Hes a quality footballer and a very humble kid, he said.Hes always willing to learn and hes just taking it all in his stride and, on Saturday night, he will just go about his business again. Does today signal the start of a trophy-laden era for Melbourne City?Or will the FFA Cup final with Sydney FC be a false dawn for the cashed-up super club with a head office in Abu Dhabi?Like everyone else, goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen isnt sure which outcome awaits City in the clubs maiden decider. But he knows how a trophy can change the fate of a club.Sorensen saw the transformation of Manchester City first hand, albeit in unfortunate personal circumstances. The Danish gloveman was in goals for Stoke City for the 2011 FA Cup final, the first trophy won by Manchester City under the same ownership that now supports his Melbourne side. The English Premier League powerhouse-in-waiting claimed their first trophy in 35 years when Yaya Toure struck home for a 1-0 win in the Wembley sunshine.Sorensen was an immense performer, producing 13 saves. But the occasion was all about City, and Sorensen remembers the transformation the club took after that.It was a massive game for them. They were feeling the pressure as well, he said. They were expected to win the final against us but it was a close game. They won the league the year after and the rest is history. Now theyre a top cluub and expected to win every year.ddddddddddddThats what we want to do here to but we need to get over the line (against Sydney FC).The 40-year-old said only victory at AAMI Park would suffice for the ambitious club. You can talk about it but at the end of the day youve got to win ... coming close all the time, that doesnt really move you anywhere, he said.Weve got the whole setup, the plans are in place.Weve got a good enough squad.Youve got to create that winning mentality, that winning culture, and the only way to do that is by winning trophies.Sorensen is far from guaranteed to play in the final, given coach John van t Schips recent preference for Dean Bouzanis in goal. But he hopes his big game experience might give him the edge when the Dutchman makes the call on his preferred gloveman.I think we all want to be in the Cup final. There will be 11 players out there, were all fighting to get a shot, he said.Ive been there and Im ready for it.The manager knows that. He knows where Im at and he can count on me. If he needs me, Im there. ' ' '
