ri Garcia totaled 146 on just 12 attempts. Five Mustangs scored rushing touchdowns in the programs highest-scoring game since 20 Antworten

DENVER -- San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy can only hope that the Giants offense, which has been faltering for weeks, might have bottomed out Monday when they were shut out at, of all places, Coors Field. The Giants were held to two hits by Chad Bettis, who threw a complete game Monday as the Colorado Rockies won the series opener 6-0.Since the All-Star break, the Giants are a major league-worst 16-31, a tailspin that includes 18 losses in their past 25 road games. The Giants are hitting a mere .219 (91-for-416) with runners in scoring position in the second half. According to STATS Inc., this is the first time the Giants have been held to four or fewer hits in five straight games since 1913.We have to find a way to come out of this, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. We couldnt generate the energy level up to get the offense going. Their guy pitched great. Ill give him that, but at the same time, weve been in this for a little while. Its time for us to wake up here. Were looking for that magic wand. We are looking for someone to get us going ... to see if somebody can jump start us and get this offense going. We are better than this. This thing is contagious. It has been here awhile, too long.Catcher Buster Posey, first baseman Brandon Belt and shortstop Brandon Crawford -- the Giants top three home-run hitters -- have combined for 243 at-bats since one of them last hit a home run -- 142 at-bats by Posey, 71 by Belt and 30 by Crawford, the last of that group to go deep when he homered Aug. 27.The boys have to get their confidence back, no question about that, Bochy said. These things are hard to explain. Crawford, Belt, Posey, the guys that normally have a few more home runs -- but the last thing you can do in this game is start thinking about it and trying for it. Now youre going to get really out of synch. You try to go up there and get a good swing off and see what happens.Jeff Samardzjia will start Tuesday for the Giants. Hes 11-9 with a 4.06 ERA and wasnt involved in the decision Thursday at Chicago when he allowed three runs on five hits in four innings as the Giants lost 5-4 to the Cubs. Samardzjia threw a career-high 47 pitches in the first inning and finished with 87 pitches. In two starts this season against the Rockies, Samardzjia is 1-1 with a 2.30 ERA. In his lone start this season at Coors Field, he allowed two runs in eight innings April 12 and was the winning pitcher in the Giants 7-2 victory.Left-hander Tyler Anderson will start for the Rockies. Hes 5-5 with a 3.43 ERA, which is the lowest in franchise history by a Rockies starter in his first 15 career starts. Anderson has allowed three or fewer runs in 12 outings, including Wednesday when he worked 6 1/3 scoreless innings in the first game of a doubleheader against the Dodgers and won 7-0. In his lone start against the Giants on July 4 at San Francisco, Anderson allowed three runs on four hits, including homers by Angel Pagan and Posey, in six innings and took the loss as the Rockies fell 3-1.Bettis magnificent start Monday gave the Colorado bullpen a day off. Going forward, Rockies manager Walt Weiss will pick his spots to restore the confidence of Carlos Estevez, a 23-year-old rookie with a fastball that can easily touch 100 mph and sits at 97-98 mph. On Sunday against Arizona, Estevez, who is 3-7 with a 5.14 ERA in 56 games with 23 walks, 54 strikeouts and 42 hits allowed in 49 innings, gave up two runs in two-thirds of an inning. He had hit two batters in his previous 55 appearances before hitting two Arizona hitters Sunday in the space of four batters and yielding a two-run single.Estevez had a 3.66 ERA in his first 42 appearances but has since allowed 15 hits and 12 runs in his past 9 2/3 innings.I think every players confidence gets shaken in this league, Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. Its what you do with it, because everybody fails. For Carlos, hes going through some of that right now. Some of its mechanical, and were working on that because it comes down to command. He obviously has major weapons. Its about commanding the ball, staying in good counts. If you cant get in (good) counts and use the weapons, its a tough league to pitch in. Nothings changed for me as far as what I think about Carlos. I think hes got a tremendous future. Hes supremely gifted, and hes a great kid. Hes going to be fine -- just working through some things like every player has to. (STATS) -- Theres not going to be any major surprises for the defenses in Saturday nights Big Sky showdown between Eastern Washington and Cal Poly. And although each team knows exactly what the opposition wants to do with the ball, actually stopping them is a whole other story. In a matchup between two teams with an eye on the Big Sky crown, the third-ranked Eagles bring the FCS top-ranked passing offense to San Luis Obispo, California, for a clash with No. 14 Cal Poly, which boasts the subdivisions top rushing attack. The Big Sky is far and away the most explosive conference in the FCS. Its teams are averaging a subdivision-best 426.5 offensive yards and have amassed 421 scrimmage TDs -- 99 more than the next-closest conference.Eastern Washington (7-1, 5-0) and Cal Poly (6-2, 4-1) are two of the premier offenses in the Big Sky, but their playbooks are vastly different. For the second straight year, the Eagles are atop the FCS in passing yards, and nobody is really close. EWUs 439.4 yards through the air are the most by a team since 2000, and 63.4 yards more than Samford, the divisions No. 2 team in passing. The aerial attack is led by the dangerous duo of quarterback Gage Gubrud and wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who are both on the STATS FCS Offensive Player of the Year Watch List.Gubrud wrapped up an astounding October by throwing four touchdowns in last Saturdays 35-16 win over then-No. 16 Montana. In four games last month, the sophomore completed 71.7 percent of his passes for 1,783 yards with 19 touchdowns to just two interceptions. He has 31 TDs on the season, with 11 going to Kupp while Shaq Hill has hauled in 10 scores through the air.Kupp leads the FCS with 143.7 receiving yards per game and needs 17 receptions to tie Elons Terrell Hudgins FCS record of 395 catches. The 2015 STATS FCS Offensive Player of the Year already owns the FCS records of 5,770 receiving yards and 67 TDs.Weve got our work cut out for us, Cal Poly coach Tim Walsh said. I really do think that they are probably the best team in the nation right now. I think they are so skilled on offense.Walshs team, however, was able to shut down Kupp in last seasons meeting, limiting him to 21 yards on four receptions. Although Kupp managed his fewest yards since gaining nine in the sixth game of his freshmaan year, EWU rallied from 15 points down in the final five minutes and went on to win 42-41 in overtime.ddddddddddddThe Eagles prevailed despite allowing the Mustangs to churn out 503 rushing yards -- the most theyve yielded since 1998.Cal Poly, the FCS top rushing team each of the last two seasons, is once again atop the division at 370.3 run yards per game, and is coming off its best showing in its 23-year history in the FCS.The Mustangs piled up 527 rushing yards in last Saturdays 59-47 win at Sacramento State as Joe Protheroe ran for 168 and Kori Garcia totaled 146 on just 12 attempts. Five Mustangs scored rushing touchdowns in the programs highest-scoring game since 2012.Its going to be a tough challenge for us handling what they do offensively, EWU coach Beau Baldwin said. What they do is run the triple option, but they also throw a little bit just to keep defenses honest.Quarterback Dano Graves has 408 yards on the ground to go with 15 passing touchdowns on just 97 attempts. His average of 11.2 yards per throw and 15.5 passing touchdown percentage are actually better than Gubruds 9.6 and 9.2 -- thought hes attempted 239 fewer passes. The engine of the offense, though, is the ground game, and Cal Poly has several dangerous backs.Protheroe leads the Big Sky with 921 rushing yards and averages 5.7 per carry while Garcia is fourth with 673 yards and is at 7.6 per attempt. Kyle Lewis has run for 561 yards and his average of 11 yards per carry is the best in the FCS among those with at least 50 attempts.Rounding out the Mustangs ground attack is Jared Mohamed, who has rushed for 237 yards -- the exact same number as Eastern Washingtons top running back, Jabari Wilson. They are totally different than what we faced, Baldwin said of Cal Poly after going up against Montanas pass-first offense. Its a challenge and they are playing really well. Facing different offenses is tough, but what makes them difficult to defend is when they are executing at a high level and they have the type of players within their offense that fit their system. That tells you they have recruited well, have developed their players and they are extremely well coached. ' ' '
