JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jaguars?fired offensive coordinator Greg Olson on Saturday, one day after head coach Gus Bradley said he didnt anticipate any staff changes.Quarterbacks coach Nathaniel Hackett will take over playcalling duties. He previously served as the offensive coordinator with Buffalo in 2013-14 under head coach Doug Marrone, who is now the Jaguars offensive line coach.Greg was a tremendous asset and always put all of his effort in doing everything he can to help in his players improvement, Bradley said in a statement. He did some great things with our offense over the past two seasons, and for that, we are very appreciative. After a thorough evaluation, I came to the conclusion that with the direction that our offense was headed, it was best to make a change moving forward.Olson was hired in January 2015, and his first season with the Jaguars was a success. The Jaguars ranked 18th in total offense, and quarterback Blake Bortles set franchise records in passing yards (4,428) and passing touchdowns (35). The offense has struggled this season, however, and Bortles has looked the way he did as a rookie in 2014.The Jaguars are 31st in the NFL in rushing, last in third-down conversions, 25th in total offense and 13th in pass offense. Bortles has completed 60 percent of his passes for 1,904 yards and 12 touchdowns with nine interceptions, but he has compiled most of those stats while playing with double-digit deficits. He has thrown seven touchdown passes when the Jaguars have been trailing by 10 or more points. The offense hit a low point in Thursdays 36-22 loss at Tennessee, gaining only 60 yards and trailing 27-0 in the first half.Hackett will be Bortles third coordinator in three years.Nathaniel has a previous history as a play-caller in Buffalo and will bring energy and knowledge to the offensive meeting room, Bradley said in a statement. He has built a great relationship with the offensive players and staff over the past two seasons.Bradley hired Olson to replace Jedd Fisch, whom Bradley fired after two seasons.?Bradley and Olson previously worked together on the Buccaneers staff in 2008.We all felt good about the offense coming out of preseason, Olson told ESPN. Our inability to find an identity in the run game once the season started hurt the entire offenses ability to improve. ... I wish I was given more time but thats the nature of this profession.?Olson spent the 2013-14 season as the offensive coordinator for the?Raiders after a one-year stint as the assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach in Jacksonville under then-coach Mike Mularkey.Olson also served as the offensive coordinator in Detroit (2004-05), St. Louis (2006-07) and in Tampa Bay (2009-11). SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Sharks re-signed defenceman Jason Demers to a one-year contract Thursday to prevent him from becoming a restricted free agent next month. Demers is the fourth potential free agent re-signed by the Sharks this month before the free agency period begins July 5. San Jose signed potential unrestricted free agent Raffi Torres to a $6 million, three-year deal, and reached deals Wednesday with pending restricted free agent forwards James Sheppard and Andrew Desjardins. Demers, 25, had one goal and two assists in 22 games last season as he was hampered by a variety of injuries, including a broken wrist sustained during the lockout that cost him the first six games of the season. Demers played just one playoff game after spraining his ankle late in the regular season. "Hes a player that obviously weve seen in the playoffs in the past," general manager Doug Wilson said. "When hes healthy hes a puck-moving guy who really fits how we want to play. ... Hes just a player that we really like. Just needs to be healthy and have a great summer of training and come back and play at a level hes capable of. He brings an element that we certainly like in our game." The deaal with Demers gives San Jose seven defenceman under contract already for next season, not including Brent Burns, who moved to forward midway through the season.dddddddddddd. Burns excelled after the switch and provided a spark that helped lead San Jose from out of playoff position all the way to Game 7 of the second round against Los Angeles before falling to the Kings. Wilson said he would talk with coach Todd McLellan next week and make a decision on where Burns would play next season. "Its a great luxury to have," Wilson said. "That decision is upcoming." The Sharks also re-signed minor league forward Brodie Reid to a one-year contract. Reid had 10 goals and 11 assists in 34 games last season while dealing with an injured shoulder for Worcester of the AHL. "Were really high on him," Wilson said. "He has natural, great hands. Hes a goal scorer. ... We dont think hes that far from being able to play." San Jose still has one more potential restricted free agent in forward TJ Galiardi. Forwards Scott Gomez and Tim Kennedy, defenceman Scott Hannan, and backup goalies Thomas Greiss and Alex Stalock are among the potential unrestricted free agents. ' ' '
