The German football federation has opened proceedings against Cologne sporting director Jorg Schmadtke for throwing chewing gum toward the Hoffenheim coaching area during a Bundesliga game on Sunday. Schmadtke reacted furiously when Kevin Volland scored a late equaliser for Hoffenheim to salvage a 1-1 draw while a Cologne player, Lukas Kluenter, was lying on the pitch after what appeared to be a foul from Eduardo Vargas. Hoffenheim sporting director Alexander Rosen said Schmadtke phoned to apologise for his actions after the game and with that the issue is closed for us.But the Cologne director, who has already found himself in trouble with the authorities once this season, faces further investigation.Schmadtke was fined 6,000 euros by the federations sports tribunal in January for insulting match officials at half-time during Colognes game at Werder Bremen on December 2, when he shouted: You eggheads are getting worse from week to week! If there is to be an upset this time there are plenty of candidates but the one I think is most interesting is among the rank outsiders - Sam Saunders. Kisner missed the cut when he appeared at the Phoenix Open Koepka looks short enough at 33s despite some eye-catching form here at one of his local tracks, which includes a remarkable 64 in round two last year after hed opened with a 78.At a bigger price, Kisner looks better value as his overall form is stronger and this test will suit him down to the ground. The RSM Classic winner missed the cut in Phoenix but is a much better player out east and should show it this week.Finally, Ernie Els and Webb Simpson appear to have decent each-way credentials. Els appears to have shrugged off the putting issues that were affecting his game Both are former major winners and thats a good starting point here.
