CALGARY - After a costly giveaway the night before that cost his team the game, Tampa Bay left-winger Ondrej Palat felt he owed his team. Nathan Walker Jersey . He didnt wait long to make good on it.Palat scored the winning goal three minutes into overtime on Tuesday night as the Lightning salvaged a split of back-to-back games in Alberta with a 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames.Tampa Bay took advantage of a Calgary turnover in the Flames end as Tyler Johnson got the puck back to the point. Anton Stralmans shot was stopped from there but Palat put in the rebound for his second goal of the year.I knew I owed the team something, a goal or a game-winning goal, so Im really happy, said Palat, whose risky pass through the slot late in the game against the Oilers Monday was intercepted and led to the winning goal.Obviously, I made a bad play with three minutes left in the third period and it cant happen. It was my fault. But after the game, I turned the page, Palat said. Im really happy that I could score for the guys.Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said he was happy for his sophomore forward.Hes such an unnoticed player in this league but so good. I dont know if thered be a coach in the league that would sit here and not want to take an Ondrej Palat or have a guy like that on his team. He earns his breaks and he deserved that one tonight. The Lightning trailed 1-0 before finally solving Flames goaltender Karri Ramo with 2:16 left in the third period.Jonathan Drouin, playing in his second NHL game, got the puck in the corner and calmly zipped a diagonal pass to Jason Garrison at the far point. Ramo got a piece of Garrisons slapshot but Valtteri Filppula knocked in the rebound.I saw one guy go to the point guy on the weak side so I saw (Garrison) open up for a one-timer. I just tried to get it to him as quick as possible, said Drouin, who picked up his first NHL point. I was pretty happy to see that go in.Drouin opened the season on injured reserve with a fractured thumb.Tampa Bay (4-2-1) has won two of its first three games on a five-game road trip, which continues in Winnipeg where the Lightning will play the Jets on Friday.Dennis Wideman scored the only goal for Calgary (4-3-1).Just back from a successful 4-2-0 road trip, the Flames were kicking off a five-game homestand, which continues on Thursday against Carolina. We had two breakdowns there on their two goals. Especially with a couple minutes left, we have to be better than that, said Calgary captain Mark Giordano. We have to learn from that. Thats a tough one to swallow right now. Well take the point and learn from that, I guess.Scoreless after two periods, Calgary opened the third period with its second power play of the game and this one they converted thanks to a skilled play by rookie left-winger Johnny Gaudreau.Bursting through the neutral zone and into the Lightning end with speed and stickhandling the puck the entire way, Gaudreau wove right to elude Stralman, wove left to evade Matthew Carle, then flung a pass back across the slot to Wideman, who one-timed a shot past Evgeni Nabokov.I just skated down the side there and Johnny basically drew everybody in the rink to him, deked them out and then made a great pass to me, said Wideman. I dont know how he knew that I was there, but he made some fantastic moves and just put it on my tape. I just got it on net.For Gaudreau, his highlight-reel assist was the third point in two games for the Flames rookie left-winger after being a healthy scratch two games ago in Columbus. After a great pre-season, last yearss Hobey Baker Award winner got off to a tough start. He had no points and was held to only one shot in the first five games of the regular season.Getting back in Sunday night in Winnipeg, Gaudreau responded with his best game of the season with a goal and an assist.I think we all knew Johnny could be a great game-breaker. Thats no secret, Wideman said. Whenever he has the puck in the offensive zone, he can control the play and control the game.Ramo made 20 saves in falling to 2-1-1. Nabokov had 21 stops to even his record at 1-1-0.The first period was mostly uneventful until the late going when Giordano caught Nikita Kucherov with a hard hit. In response, J.T. Brown jumped in and he and Giordano dropped the gloves to a roar from the Saddledome crowd showing their support for Calgarys captain.Notes: Drouin skated on a line with Filppula and Steven Stamkos... Ryan Callahan (lower body) did not play for Tampa Bay after leaving Mondays game early... Healthy scratches for the Flames were RW Devin Setoguchi, RW Brian McGrattan and D Raphael Diaz... The game went nearly six minutes without a whistle in the second period. As a result, the major penalties to Giordano and Miller saw them sit in the penalty box for 9:49... Widemans three goals is one off his total of four last year in an injury-riddled year, in which he was limited to 46 games. Devante Smith-Pelly Jersey . Head coach Corey Chamblin announced on Monday that Avon Cobourne had been hired as the defending Grey Cup champions new running backs coach. T.J. Oshie Jersey . -- The Tampa Bay Lightning are disappointed, though not discouraged. http://www.officialcapitalsfanstore.com/authentic-rod-langway-capitals-jersey/ . Warren made six birdies and a bogey for a 5-under total of 139 to sit one shot ahead of Felipe Aguilar of Chile, who carded a 69. David Horsey of England was also on 5 under through 15 holes to join Warren atop the leaderboard before play was stopped.TORONTO – The first-place Blue Jays hit the halfway mark of the season with 45 wins and a two-game lead on Baltimore in the American League East, territory unfamiliar to a franchise still waiting for its first playoff game since October 23, 1993, the night Joe Carter walked off Mitch Williams into World Series lore. "Im proud of the way the guys played," said manager John Gibbons. "It was kind of a so-so start and we kicked it in there in the month of May and put ourselves in a good position. Now, you know, we just need to do that again in the second half or even improve on that but Im very, very happy with the effort and the way the guys have been playing baseball. Its that simple." You wont find a Mission Accomplished banner hanging in the clubhouse. The expectation is much greater. "Has it met it yet? No," said Casey Janssen. "Our expectation is to make the playoffs and win the World Series and were not there yet. Weve got a long way to go. I think everyone believed we could be this type of team but were not throwing a party yet, we know that. We know theres a ton of talent here and its the AL East so anything can happen." Despite a recent downturn in offensive production, through 81 games Toronto continues to sit in the top seven of most major categories. The club sits first in the majors with 104 home runs. Its fourth with a .262 batting average and .331 on-base percentage. The on-base plus slugging percentage of .767 ranks third and its 272 walks are seventh. The most pleasant surprise and biggest disappointment reside on the same spot: the pitchers mound. The pleasant surprise: Blue Jays starters lead the American League with 35 wins (a number not reached until the 135th game last season) and the staff ERA of 3.87 is best in the AL East. The biggest disappointment: the bullpen, the ray of sunshine in a stormy 2013 season, has compiled baseballs fourth-worst ERA (4.48). Its a target for improvement. "I think there are some times when weve got to be better in the bullpen," said Gibbons. "Weve got to shore that up a little bit. Its like anything, consistency over the whole pitching staff and hopefully you stay healthy enough." The Blue Jays have been fortunate to remain relatively healthy, dealing with injuries theyve been able to cover. Maicer Izturis was a backup infielder. Brandon Morrow wasnt pitching well when he got hurt. Colby Rasmus missed 33 games with a hamstring strain and the Jays got by with an Anthony Gose-Kevin Pillar platoon in centerfield. The medical staff is now doing the dance with Jose Bautista as he deals with a hamstring probleem, which could be made worse if rushed. John Carlson Jersey. Bautista will run sprints on Saturday morning and depending on how he feels, could be available to at least pinch hit on the weekend. QUIET TIME FOR JANSSEN Wondering where closer Casey Janssen has been these days? Hes around. He just hasnt pitched much due to a lack of save opportunities. Since notching his 12th save of the season on June 15 in Baltimore, Janssen has appeared twice. He mopped up the epic, 14-9 comeback win on June 20 in Cincinnati. He threw the ninth inning of a 6-6 game against the Yankees on June 24 and got the win when the Blue Jays walked off. It can be difficult for relievers when they go through a period without consistent work. "I feel like saves come in bunches at times," said Janssen. "You get opportunities to pitch maybe in a lopsided game one way or another if it gets to be too long. Sometimes there are times when you dont get in but you get up. Im one of those guys that always has relied on my command and I guess it comes a little more natural to me than others." Janssen has 12 saves in 14 opportunities this season. "Sometimes the rest is good, knowing that the tough stretch is going to come at some point," said Janssen. Expect Janssen to get into a game before the weekend is over, regardless of whether Toronto has a lead of three or less. Janssen speaks to pitching coach Pete Walker about his schedule, who relays the message to manager John Gibbons. If Janssen goes four or five days without action his arms reaction to its diminished workload becomes less predictable. "You wonder if your arms going to be a little cranky or if its going to be super fresh," said Janssen. "Sometimes you feel great when you get the rest and sometimes youre kind of knocking the dust off a little bit." Remember that Janssen had an abbreviated spring training thanks to stiffness in the back of his pitching shoulder. He didnt appear in a Grapefruit League game until the final week of March. Then, in Montreal, he strained his left oblique and didnt make his season debut until May 12. Its been a build for Janssen, who anticipates being able to pitch on three consecutive days, if needed, as the importance of each game ramps up. "I feel like Id love to do it and Id love to have the opportunity to do it," said Janssen. "I think a lot of those three in a rows depend on how the first two went and the stress level of those innings. My goal is to be able to pitch in every opportunity possible, especially as the season gets further along and as this division and the race gets tight and everything like that."
